about
So, my wonderful nephew Matty would have been 18 on 22nd October. He gained his angel wings on 5th February 2021 after bravely battling medulloblastoma a form of brain cancer. This song is dedicated to him.
The track started with a discussion with Ellie Keegan - and resulted in me writing the lyrics. She directed me to our mutual musician friends, who were all excited to be part of a wonderful collaborative musical project.
I can't thank them enough : Matt Johnson, Maty Tustian, Jess Silk, Brian Stone, Ewan P Stevens, Sam Tucker, Sid River, Karen Stone Chloe Glover. You all had a part to play in taking an idea on Monday 10th October and turning it into something beautiful in such a short time. I'm honestly so grateful to all you guys for giving up you time and talent to help on this.
All proceeds from the downloads and merch sales will go directly to Team Verrico. Fighting for more tomorrows is what we all do, luckily for many of us we'll get tomorrows, hopefully we'll get lots of them, we make plans to make memories and have a good chance of reaching them but for families facing cancer the opportunities are more uncertain.
If we can help in anyway, to help a family make memories, I truly hope we can. TEAM VERRICO are an amazing group of people, doing something so positive from such tragic circumstances.
lyrics
Forever 17
Matty you touched us all
With your bravery and your grit
You took all of life's punches
Smiled and rolled through all of it
Loved by many
So near and far
Strangers friends and family
Who now look up to the stars
Cruelly taken far too soon, forever 17
Always in our hearts, our love for you, you know is evergreen
And you taught us all to take this life just one day at a time
That the destination is always worth the climb
So many memories and
Things that make us think of you
A win for the foxes a Hard Rock Cafe
And Harry Potter too
Loved by so many
Far and near
Strangers friends and family
Still hold you very dear
Cruelly taken far too soon, forever 17
Always in our hearts, our love for you, you know is evergreen
And you taught us all to take this life just one day at a time
That the destination is always worth the climb
From the moment you were born
I've been your Auntie Jo
And I’ve loved you since forever
More than you'll ever know
And I'll see your smile everyday
While forget-me-nots they grow
So this one's for you my darling with love from Auntie Jo
Cruelly taken far too soon, forever 17
Always in our hearts, our love for you, you know is evergreen
And you taught us all to take this life just one day at a time
and that the destination is always worth the climb
Forever 17 now
You’re forever 17
And I'll see your smile everyday
While forget-me-nots they grow
This one's for you my darling
with love from Auntie Jo

Great album. Almost a blend of Old Style and New Style Gaz. Delighted to have seen him perform two of the tracks live at Glastonbury. His performance was better than ever, and the songs are right up there with his best. matsan66
Gaz, having finally got this in the CD player, what an absolute stunner of an album, a glorious document of the hardest year in history, emotions, tears, mass singalongs, “The Old Normal”, one of my absolute key songs of last year and, topping them all, “Rule”, Gaz does full tilt screaming metal and it’s f’ing glorious!
